Our Spring competition was one by Jake, 7. Here is the winning story:
One day Dorothy was waiting for her family who were coming to visit. She hadn’t seen them all winter. They lived in a cave on the other side of the Alboombar Mountains and during winter it was too cold for dragons to fly across the mountains.
Today Dorothy’s family were coming for the first visit of spring.
She was very disappointed because they were already 2 hours late and she had been awake since 5o’clock in the morning because she was so excited to see them. Dorothy was sad. She wanted them to come now. She was getting sadder every minute they were late.
Dorothy’s mum said “It will be ok, they’ll come soon enough” but nothing could make Dorothy smile. She was sitting in the cave on her comfortable chair waiting with lots and lots of charming flowers in her hand. But even the flowers couldn’t make her smile. The cave was dark but it was ok because dragons can see in the dark.
She felt lonely and sad they were not coming, she just knew it, even though her mum said they were.
“It’s breakfast time.” Said Dorothy’s mum.
“Ok mum.” Dorothy answered back. She thought about what she was doing, it was really silly to just sit here being sad. She needed something to do.
Suddenly something tickled Dorothy under her armpit, the tickliest place on her whole body.
She laughed “hehehehehehe.”
Then something appeared on her jumper. It was Ant. He was one of her best friends. He had a big smile on his face because he was pleased he’d made laugh by tickling her.
Before Dorothy could speak to Ant she felt a tickle on her neck.
“Hey, what’s that? Hahahahahaha.” She laughed again, it was so tickly! She was laughing so much she nearly bumped into her mum who was bringing her bowl of spectaular Josee-beans for breakfast.
What had made her laugh that time? It was her friend worm he had left a gooey trail across her neck. He was happy he had made her smile because he had been watching her all morning and didn’t like her sad.
Before she could speak to worm, Dorothy felt a big tickle on her tummy!
“Hehehehehe Hahahahaha Hehehehe” She laughed. She laughed so hard she fell of her chair and happy tears were crying down her cheeks. This time it was caterpillar who tickled Dorothy. He smiled at her.
All her animal friends tickled her in the same places again. She rolled around the floor she was laughing so much! Suddenly she bumped into something and looked up! It was Grandpa, Granny, and Uncle Peter and Tish, all looking at her. Her family had arrived.
“What are you doing?” They asked.
“I was just having some fun while I waited for you!” She replied.
Dorothy and her family had a very happy day and spent the rest of the day laughing!
